On behalf  of the Chairman and the Board of Directors of the Gabriela Mistral Foundation, I wish to express our deepest and most sincere concern, and support to each and everyone of you at this moment when we learn of the tragic news of the devastating earthquake that has affected so many people in different regions of Chile.

 We also wish to express our solidarity with the people of our beloved country and most especially with those who have been affected most directly by this tragedy. We most sincerely hope that you will be able to reach your loved ones and that the loss suffered be only the loss of "material possessions"  and  that their spirit and faith remain strong.

 This most difficult day and distressing day has also made us very proud as we have seen the courage and calm the  people  of Chile have showed today.  Chile has a breathtaking landscape but most importantly it is the grace of its people that it is its greatest asset and makes it be a beautiful country, the one that was Gabriela Mistral's inspiration
